The Chung Mei Chronicles

Originally housed in west Berkeley, the Chung Mei Home for boys of Chinese heritage whose parents could not take care of them moved to El Cerrito in 1935. The home was located in a new building built near Elm and Hill streets and is still used today as a public school. From its very start in 1923, the boys published their (mostly) monthly The Chung Mei Chronicle, which gives a fascinating view of the of life in and around the Chung Mei Home.
